Concussion/PCS Treatment & Prevention

Care for individuals looking to recover from their concussions better, faster, and stronger. And for those high-risk individuals (e.g., contact athletes) looking to minimize their risk of concussion damage.

Brief overview:

  • Comprehensive concussion-specific evaluation and management.

  • In-house concussion-specific rehabilitation and performance training.

  • 20% off any indicated supplement prescriptions (using Fullscript or an in-house dispensary).

  • Virtual (telehealth) options are available, as well. *Options vary by geographic region of patients.

  • Single session rates or “multi-week package” rates.

Concussion evaluation & treatments available:

The most up-to-date evidence in concussion/PCS care suggests that the best course of action includes a multi-modal evaluation and treatment plan. This plan should target autonomic function, visual and vestibular function, cervical spine function, reaction time and balance, as well as other markers of neurocognitive function.

Assessment & Treatment offered by Dr. Mark:

  • BTrackS Force Plate Balance Assessment

  • EQ Brain Performance Neurocognitive Assessment

  • Buffalo Concussion Treadmill/Bike Testing

  • Motion Guidance visual feedback rehab

  • Return-to-sport exertion testing

  • Vestibular-Oculomotor Screening (VOMS)

  • Orthostatic vitals screening

  • Detailed vestibular and oculomotor examination

  • Basic lab evaluation (e.g., CBC, CMP, Thyroid, etc…)

  • Advanced lab evaluation (e.g., Omega-3 Index, Organic Acids, Hormone Profile, etc…)

  • Cervical spine evaluation & soft-tissue manual rehab

A note about being a naturopathic physician (ND) in Arizona with Youth athletes & concussions.

Despite being qualified, specialized, and continually training to be up-to-date in concussion (mTBI), the Arizona Department of Health Services will not allow me, a licensed ND, to diagnose (on the sidelines) or clear AZ school student athletes (does not apply to private club athletes) for return-to-play. This is a scope allowed to MDs, DOs, (and being trialed in physical therapists). Be sure to check out what the data says about physicians and concussions before you run with this conclusion, though.

What does this mean for your Youth Athlete?

We will stay in contact with your, or your child’s, primary care doctor (MD/DO) throughout recovery. In all reality, many doctors are not trained in concussion and are glad to work with concussion specialists during recovery. I am happy to share notes, exam results, and interpretations with your provider(s) while allowing them to make the initial and final calls in your care. My job is to help you recover as fast and painlessly as possible - and often that requires integrative, multi-modal care.
